Mr. Beckett received his B.S. degree from the University of Nevada at Reno and his J.D. degree from the University of San Francisco. He is licensed to practice before the State and Federal Courts of Nevada and California, and the United States Supreme Court.

Riley M. Beckett

Riley M. Beckett is the founding partner, now of-council, in the law firm of Beckett, Yott, McCarty & Spann. He set out on his distinguished career in employment related law by serving as General Counsel for the Nevada Industrial Commission.

Since entering private practice almost 30 years ago, he has built one of the most prominent workers’ compensation and personal injury law firms in Nevada, with a dedication to providing clients with only the highest caliber of representation. He demands a similar commitment to excellence from every attorney who has been selected to be a member of the firm.

Mr. Beckett is legendary for his skill in workers’ compensation subrogation litigation. His accomplishments are widely recognized and he was voted Nevada’s 2002 Workers’ Compensation Super Lawyer in a Nevada Business Journal survey of his peers.

She received her B.A. degree from the University of California at San Diego and her J.D. degree from the University of San Diego, School of Law. Mrs. Yott is licensed to practice in Nevada and California, and has significant litigation experience in the State and Federal Courts of both states.

Laurie A. Yott

Laurie A. Yott is a partner in the law firm of Beckett, Yott, McCarty & Spann. She has been an attorney for more than twenty-five years and has successfully handled thousands of workers’ compensation, personal injury and subrogation cases.

She is unquestionably one of Nevada’s leading experts in the workers' compensation field. Mrs. Yott has also frequently been retained to handle workers’ compensation cases at the upper appellate levels. She has handled numerous cases before the Nevada Supreme Court as well as several Nevada workers' compensation matters at the US Supreme Court.

Mrs. Yott is a dynamic public speaker and is often requested to give seminars to business and professional groups on employment related topics.

After graduating from Creighton University in 1980, Mr. McCarty obtained his J.D. degree from the Creighton School of Law in 1983.

James A. McCarty

James A. McCarty is a partner in Beckett, Yott, McCarty & Spann. Mr. McCarty is acknowledged to be one of the most distinguished Nevada workers' compensation professionals.

Since he began practicing law in Nevada in 1986, he has tried thousands of workers' compensation appeals, and is one of very few attorneys in the state to have represented the interests of injured workers, as well as employers, third-party administrators and insurance companies. Jim is one of the few lawyers in Nevada with extensive experience in employer account issues. He is also unique in his record of successes in subsequent injury fund matters.

He began training as a trial attorney by working as the Assistant County Attorney in Dodge County, Nebraska and was appointed as County Coroner, part time. Jim moved to Nevada in 1985 and began work for the Nevada Attorney for Injured Workers in 1987. Jim then worked for the State Industrial Insurance System for 2 years, then went into private practice in 1992, representing injured workers, insurers and employers in workers compensation matters.

Mr. McCarty is a member of the State Bars of Nevada and Nebraska, and is admitted to practice before all Nevada and Nebraska State and Federal Courts. Beckett, Yott, McCarty & Spann is privileged to have a respected and capable employment attorney such as Jim McCarty as a member of the law firm.

A third generation Nevadan, Mr. Spann graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a B.S. in 1978 and the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 1982.

Charles W. Spann

Charles W. Spann is a partner in Beckett, Yott, McCarty & Spann. Admitted to the Nevada State Bar in 1982, Mr. Spann has extensive experience in all aspects of litigation, with a focus in the areas of product liability, complex civil litigation, trucking law and insurance litigation.

Mr. Spann's jury trial skills and experience have resulted in the significant honor of his being voted a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). Mr. Spann is also on the executive board of ABOTA for the northern Nevada chapter.

Mr. Spann has successfully handled hundreds of complex, multi-million dollar lawsuits and has been awarded the highest accolade in Martindale-Hubbell: an AV rating. This was as a result of an extensive, confidential review conducted among the legal profession in his community. The AV rating signifies Mr. Spann’s legal abilities are of the very highest standard and his professional ethics are unquestioned.

Mr. Spann is often requested to give seminars on a variety of topics relating to trial skills and civil litigation. He has, for example, spoken at American Transportation Association programs on a variety of trucking industry subjects. He has also recently been a presenter in the American Board of Trial Advocates Masters in Trial Programs in Reno and Las Vegas.
